Mission
I believe that each child is a unique individual that has the natural ability to learn great things. This belief has allowed me to place an emphasis on the whole child and not just the child’s education. Over the course of twenty years, I’ve had the privilege of fine-tuning a balanced environment of play-based and academic challenges for each individual child in order to lay a solid foundation for future learning.
One part of each day is dedicated to academic challenges. This is specifically “teacher-directed.” I personally lead the children in a structured environment through meticulous activity planning and encouraging guidance. This structured design is aimed at preparing kids for an organized kindergarten setting. Academic time is devoted to learning letters and sounds, distinguishing shapes, basic math activities, understanding the calendar, waiting their turn, and sitting at the table. I’m fully committed to helping children learn problem-solving skills and allowing them to become independent and confident as they work on completing their assignments for the day.
The other part of the day is play-based, where children choose fun and engaging activities based on their current interests. The play-based classroom environment is broken up into sections such as a home and kitchen, science area, water table, reading nook, and a space with building blocks and other fun toys. I encourage the children to engage in play, which allows them to facilitate social skills and creativity as they go. It may often seem like they are just playing, but they are learning valuable skills during this time. Some of these skills include important social skills and cooperation with others. Through play, children learn the rules of society. They work out emotional problems and develop imagination. They learn how to share, to negotiate, to collaborate, and understand how other people feel. They formulate, test and revise theories about the world around them.
I’m honored to facilitate a rich, loving, safe environment where children know they are important and what they learn and do is significant. My goal is for every child to leave at year’s end with a love of learning and the skills to realize their potential.
